Roshan Idnani Becomes National Master

Congratulations to Roshan Idnani, New Jersey's newest National Master!

A first round win against FM Boris Privman, in yesterday's Westfield G/45 Quads, put him over 2200.

John Moldovan will be giving a lecture at the Kenilworth Chess Club tonight.

Christian Brothers Academy Seeks Chess Coach

Christian Brothers Academy is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to help mentor its state and national championship chess team.

Recent CBA chess successes include, sectional title at NYC championships, two titles at NYC High School Championships, NJ 12th Grade Champions, National Champions for 12th grade for second time in three years, Jersey Shore Conference Champions and State Champions.

Candiates' qualifications should include:

· being a USCF rated player

· having experience teaching chess and the ability to analyze games

· availability after school several days per week and for several weekend tournaments per year

Former Westfield CC member Eric Yuhan Li went 3-0 at today's Chess Mates Saturday Quad & earned his National Master title.

IM Zlotnikov To Lecture At West Orange CC, On 6/12

International Master Mikhail Zlotnikov will be giving a lecture at the West Orange Chess Club on Tuesday June 12, 2018 at 8:00 p.m.

A $10 per attendee donation is requested. If you are a West Orange resident, are under age 18 or age 65+, the requested donation is $5.

Westfield CC Closed Today

The Westfield Chess Club is closed today, May 27th.

Our next tournament will be G/45 Quads on Sunday, June 3rd, 2018, at 1:30 p.m.

Ernesto Labate Library Dedication Tomorrow!

Prior tomorrow's G/45 Quads there will be a performance by Fred Lehotay & The Ragtimers and dedication of the Ernesto Labate Library.

Here is the schedule of events:

11:00 a.m. - Performance by Fred Lehotay & The Ragtimers.
12:15 p.m. - Dedication of the Ernesto Labate Library
12:45 - Tournament registration
1:30 - Westfield G/45 Quads

Refreshments will be served sometime in the 11-12:45 time frame.

A big thank you to former President Todd Lunna for honoring Ernesto by commissioning construction of a cabinet to house his book collection & arranging the festivities.

The Henry Hibbard Cup (held by Sanjana Vittal in the picture below), onto which the names of  Westfield CC Champions are inscribed, will also be housed in the cabinet.

You can order at the club on May 6th, 13th & 20th.

The price is $21, regardless of size.

We will have no more than 9 shirts available.

Uniform 12:30 P.M. Starting Time Beginning June 10!

Beginning on June 10th,

all Westfield Chess Club afternoon Quads (G/45, G/50, G/60) & Scholastic events will have a uniform 12:30 p.m. starting time.

 

Registration will be from 11:45 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.

The earlier starts should provide a more leisurely pace for our TDs & the uniform time should benefit our players.

If you are not playing in the U.S. Amateur Team East tournament at the Parsippany Hilton this weekend, stop by to visit. It is a great event with more than 1000 participants, including many Westfield members.

Michael O'Connor & his band Mikell's Plot will be performing today from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Today's games are at 1:00 & 7:30 p.m. Sunday's are at 11 a.m. & 6 p.m. Monday's are at 9 a.m. & 3:30 p.m.

Chess4Less & the Rochester Chess Center will have books & equipment for sale all 3 days.
