Westfield CC Policy On ChessNoteЯ

The USCF has approved another electronic scoresheet device: The ChessNoteЯ by Black Mirror Studio, LLC, which runs exclusively on Nexus phones.

In our opinion, letting players record games with phones is a bad decision. It creates cheating opportunities & places additional burdens on TDs. Monroi, eNotate & PlyCount devices are easily identifiable. Now, we need to know what brand phone people are using, ascertain who is using ChessNoter or an unapproved app & deal with opponents or their parents who are disturbed by, or jealous of, the new product.

Thus, the Westfield CC is setting the following rules re: ChessNoter, effective 1/1/2018:

1. A player must inform the Chief TD of his/her intent to use ChessNoter before round one.
2. Your device must remain at the board during the game.
3. Any player violating rules 1 or 2, using other phones or other chess apps is subject to immediate forfeit & ban.

Grand Prix Aborted Due To Power Outage, Re-Scheduled For June 25th

Today's Westfield Grand Prix was aborted midway through the 1st round, due to a power outage & the resulting YMCA evacuation.

With the event's abrupt conclusion, we could not issue on-site refunds. Players desiring one should email their pertinent data to westfieldchessclub@gmail.com. If you do not contact us we will hold your entry fee as credit toward future events.

All reported results will be submitted for rating later today, as will 3 adjudicated games in the U1200 Section. Players in the Open & U1800 Sections may submit games for possible adjudication to westfieldchessclub@gmail.com.

The Grand Prix has been re-scheduled for Sunday, June 25th. If we can beat the USCF's publication deadline, its ad will appear in Chess Life's May & June issues.

Thank you all for understanding that the circumstances were beyond our control.

Addendum 3/24 at 2:08 p.m. -  The credit may be used for any Westfield Chess Club tournament except the Club Championship in December.
